Natalie defends a movie she loves even though she knows it's terrible.
As promised I won’t be talking about treasure hunting and action packed adventures this week. In the spirit of this week I will be talking about a romance movie, but not one of the greats that Chris featured this week. Instead I will be focusing on a less than realistic romance movie. One of my favorites, and probably most other girls you would talk to, How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
Why I Love It:
5. Matthew McConaughey on a motorcycle. This movies features McConaughey in his chick flick prime and he definitely knows how to work it and put on a show.
4. There are some very funny and entertaining scenes. Mostly when Andie is pretending to be super crazy to make Ben break up with her. She does everything from completely “girlifying” his bachelor pad to getting him into a fight at a movie theatre.
3. No one in the movie seems to be taking themselves too seriously. Everyone knows why they are there and that the main goal is to try and be funny, but not too serious. It is a rom-com after all.
2. Kate Hudson’s character Andie Anderson is tailored to be the “perfect girl” that every girl wants to be. She is beautiful, easy going, smart, funny, not crazy at all, could get any guy, loves sports and eating whatever she wants without gaining a pound, and she can clean up to be the most beautiful girl around. Who wouldn’t want to watch her character develop and end up happy?
1. The chemistry between Hudson and McConaughey is surprisingly good for a rom-com and these two do a pretty good job of being convincingly in love. This is something most rom-coms find very hard to achieve. Both of the actors do a very good job with what they are given and save this movie from being a total train wreck.

Why It's Terrible:
5. The plot has one unbelievable twist after another. Anderson just happens to go to the same bar that Barry is having his meeting in so that they can be set up together? In New York City these two people randomly end up at the same bar? And no one ever finds out about the others' assignment? Now that’s just ridiculous.
4. The writing is very blasé. Nothing that spectacular, and without Hudson and McConaughey to dress it up a bit this movie really wouldn't have been worth the time.
3. No one beyond the leads in this movie really tries that hard. They don’t really need to for the movie to succeed, but they also aren't adding anything spectacular to it. There are some pretty funny minor characters acted by decently talented people. They definitely could have used them to jazz up the story.
2. The ending is sort of dissatisfying. I mean sure, they get back together and live happily ever after as expected, but there is something that is missing. I also feel like there are a lot of loose ends left unexplained. But honestly I would expect nothing less from a typical rom-com.
1. It’s the same exact story we have seen a million times with the perfect girl ending up with the perfect guy in the end with only one pretty minor speed bump in the way. It doesn't really offer anything new, challenging, or thought provoking.

I know that this and probably many other chick flicks that I will inevitably write about are nothing more than a cookie cutter, run of the mill rom-com, but something about the way it flows is just flat out entertaining for me to watch.
