All the worthwhile movie news from the week.
300: Rise of an Empire
A new trailer has been released for the next 300 and this one curiously features Black Sabbath's "War Pig". Featuring a lot of the same scenes from the previous trailers, just re-cut for the new one, there seems to be something missing with this movie that was there in the original. The sets and drab palettes are still there, but the style seems to be gone, replaced by that of a generic actioner. I guess we'll see.

Weekend at Bernie's
The creative team behind Weekend at Bernie's is suing MGM and 20th Century Fox, claiming they were never paid for the contracts they signed in 1987. I guess they just noticed. Either way, their lawyer claims they've each "Each of them [has been] deprived of at least hundreds of millions of dollars" which I'm taking to mean their lawyer believes it potentially stretches into the billions for each of them when the movie grossed $30 million. I want this guy to give every quote about every lawsuit. He's fantastic.

Peter Pan Origin Story
Hugh Jackman has been cast as what one can only assume will be an oddly muscular Blackbeard in the upcoming Peter Pan origin story. The film, whose crew doesn't really elicit excitement (with Atonement, and Ice Age: Continental Drift being their notable projects) and whose premise seems wholly unnecessary (do we really need to see how Peter Pan came to be Peter Pan?) at least seems to adding a little credibility in its casting.

The Nut Job 2
In the ultimate triumph of greed over quality, Open Road has announced they'll be wringing a little more blood from The Nut Job's turnip by greenlighting a sequel to the title that currently holds a 12% on Rotten Tomatoes, but made a boatload of money. Congratulations America, you deserve another one of these. I vote for a subtitle of The Treasure Chestnut.

Untitled Batman vs. Superman Movie
Gal Gadot has revealed that she'll be paid $300k for her first appearance as Wonder Woman and is under contract for 2 more films after that. This wouldn't be news if Marvel and DC weren't normally so tight-lipped about what they pay their talent and how long they have them as indentured servants. #freenatalieportman

Vice
Bruce Willis has signed on to Vice, a movie about a resort staffed by androids where the rich can live out their darkest fantasies under an "anything goes" policy, since the android's memories are wiped every night. When one of them gets all her memories back, she vows revenge for the atrocities visited upon her. Willis will play the resort's owner. Dollhouse: The Movie - sorry, Vice - is still in search of a director, so there's no release date yet.

Jack Ryan
Given the audience skewing more "older male" than the studio would have preferred, plans for a sequel to this month's Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit have been cast into doubt. Depending on international box office performance, this might have been one-and-done. But for God's sake, if Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters can get a sequel, why can't this? Just admit that if it's going to skew older male, don't release it during the NFL playoffs, that demographics obvious first priority.
