Cabin Fever | The Devil's Advocate | Law Abiding Citizen | The Dark Knight Rises
Some movies come so close to greatness, that when they miss, it's agonizing. Maybe it's a botched ending or maybe it's casting, but whatever the case, the fact that there was so much promise around the one glaring flaw is incredibly frustrating. Given that these movies may or may not be fondly remembered, I'm going to explain the one thing holding each of them back.
Cabin Fever: The ending. The jarringly sudden attempt and light-hearted racism goes over about as well as that oxymoron makes it sound. Until then, we had great pacing, and original idea, and Eli Roth actually showing a little restraint on the gorenography.
The Devil's Advocate: The casting. Put anyone but Keanu Reeves in the main role, and I think it cracks plenty of people's Top Ten lists. Also starring Al Pacino and Charlize Theron, my personal choice would be Johnny Depp, but Brad Pitt and Edward Norton were reportedly considered, proving that sometimes Hollywood just can't get out of its own way.
Law Abiding Citizen: The ending. Gerard Butler's super-genius not realizing there was a reason Jamie Foxx was acting so smug is not only aggravating, it's completely out of character.
The Dark Knight Rises: The ending. I've already ranted about it and won't belabor the point here.

Disclaimer: I know I have way too few readers at this point for the polls to be meaningful, but this is the schedule I want to stick to even after growing a readership base.
